TOUR THE NEW LIBRARY!

The Library has moved to our new location at 18 Divide Street East.  Thank you to all the volunteers who helped move the books, computers, book shelves and other furniture!  The volunteer support was overwhelming!  We would like to thank the business community, civic organizations and the Bowman county community for their enthusiastic support of this project.

Floor plan of the new library.

The plan for the new Bowman Public Library was designed to include:

  • comfortable public reading areas

  • increased computer access with more public computers and patron laptop access

  • a greatly expanded children's library with a multi-tiered youth summer reading program

  • substantially expanded space for public programming, meetings & events.

  • handicapped accessible building

  • archive space for special collections

  • increased parking for library patrons

The view from the front door and to the right.  Welcome to the Bowman Regional Public Library!

Another view of the reading area.  The library subscribes to over 100 newspapers and magazines.  Many of those subscriptions are sponsored by individuals and businesses in the county of Bowman!  Thank you!

This Stickley clock and Morris chairs were chosen to match some of the furniture that was in the old library. We wanted to keep the history of the old library, but have an updated and more comfortable feeling for library patrons.  The grandfather clock is still available for sponsorship.  Please call or email the library for details.

The new library has several reading areas, but none are used as much as the two chairs near the front of the building next to the magazines. Big and comfortable-- these chairs easily fit two children and are often used that way-- two kids sharing a chair and a book.

These chairs were sponsored by Carol White Culp in memory of her parents Howard and Mary White.  Thank you, Carol!

Book display-- we like to showcase some of our books on this table as you walk into the library. This is display features books that are recommended for college bound students.

This table and the Stickley display case (not shown) were sponsored by family of Nate Lininger in Memory of him.  Thank you for thinking of the library for this special memorial.

The lighting design keeps with the choices of the furniture-- we wanted to create a mood in the library and reference the history of the old library. The fixtures also repeat the design on the exterior of the library.

New windows! The old "grocery store" windows were cracked and drafty. Those windows were replaced with these windows, made by the Anderson window company. You can see the Pioneer Trails Regional Museum through the windows.

The library has six new public access computers each with a high speed internet connection.  A grant from the North Dakota State Library plus matching funds from the Bowman City Commission allowed us to purchase these computers.  Thank you!

Books!  These are photos of the adult fiction and young adult fiction sections of the library.  We have a very nice collection of adult fiction, especially large print materials.

And on to the Children's section of the Library : Dr. Seuss display on the top of the moveable shelving units that house the Children's picture books.  We use the very top and top most shelf for display, keeping the lower three shelves for books for easy reach for young hands.

This table/stool set was donated in memory of Luverne Linius. It is rare to see this table empty-- the children love to sit at the table and read.

New picture books for the children. Note the Bison book-- books about dinosaurs, bison, prairie dogs and other creatures found (or once found) in this area are very popular with the kids. We are working to expand the collection of topics in this section.

The rug and large book furniture were purchased with money raised from the Rosie the Reindeer fundraiser at Lasting Visions in Bowman.  We call the rug our "quiet rug" when we conduct the summer reading program.  No talking while you're on the rug!

A large paper mache dragon is found in the children's section of the library.  This dragon was made by Marie Snavely with help from the Rhame High School art students.

The library also serves as a gallery showplace for local and regional artists.  This is a photo of a few of the exhibits from the Prairie Rose Art Association's annual tri-state Art and Photography show.
